Forest School

It was great to spend some time outside at Forest School this morning. There were even more signs of Spring this week. We were treated to some lovely bird song by the Great Tit, Robin and Woodpecker. The birds were also busy building nests (as was Ella, see photos, very impressive). Mr Berry has been watching a Robin build a nest and lay four eggs. Today a small group of us crept up to watch the Robin visiting the nest to feed the newly hatched chicks. Mr Berry is keeping a careful eye on the nest and will let us know how they get on.

There was much den building today too, we were invited in to enjoy mugs of hot chocolate!

It was lovely to see the children working together and forming new friendships.

Forest School

Up at Forest School the warmer weather has really started to get things growing. This week we went about trying to find signs of Spring. We looked for spring flowers such as snowdrops, celandines and primroses. We checked the trees for buds and catkins. We looked in the pond and found lots of frogspawn. We also spent some time listening for bird song and watching to see if any birds were making nests.

Keep a look out on your journey to school, in your garden or if you are out for a walk for any other signs of Spring. Let us know what you spot by adding a comment to this post.

Signs of new life… and mud!

This term we have been looking for signs of new life at Forest School. Last week, we spotted leaf buds and this week we saw lots and lots of frogspawn! As well as our scientific discoveries, the Kingfishers have been trying out some delicious recipes for “chocolate pie”… Do you fancy trying it?!

Forest School

Year 2 had another wet and cold Forest School session today – this didn’t stop the children exploring the site and using compasses – just like the explorers we have been learning about. A couple of lovely children even made their cold and wet teacher a ‘cup of tea’! Delicious!

As the weather gets colder and wetter – can we please remind parents – layers layers layers, and hats and gloves! Also after speaking to Ian we will also start having to enforce the following rules:

– No Forest School kit – no Forest School. This includes suitable footwear! We have got by with borrowing kit and being ‘careful’, but as it gets muddier and wetter it isn’t something we can continue to do. We don’t want children to sit in wet clothes all day.

– No school shoes or uniform to get changed into – no Forest School. Same as above – we want to make sure children are warm, dry and comfortable all day.

If you have any questions regarding Forest School or kit arrangements please speak to one of the Year 2 Team.
