Week 5

English tasks
Task 1
This week’s reading comprehension is all about VE day, which we will be celebrating on Friday. Read the text linked below and answer the questions (text and questions are the the same document):
VE Day reading comprehension – PDF
Task 2
Part 1
Here is this week’s spelling picture quiz. Just like last week, your spellings include suffixes. Suffixes are letters that are added to the end of a word to make a new word. This week, your spellings end in the suffixes -ful, -less and -ly. The spelling list (and answers to the picture quiz) is below.
Part 2

On Friday, we celebrate 75 years since VE Day; the end of the Second World War in Europe. During the Second World War, families were separated for many reasons. Many men went abroad to fight and many children were evacuated to the countryside without their parents. One of the few things that kept these families connected was writing letters.
Miss Armstrong’s grandfather worked on the upkeep of RAF bases in Yorkshire during the Second World War. Her family is lucky enough to have some of the letters that her grandfather and grandmother wrote to each other. Do you have any of the letters that your family wrote during the war?
At the moment, we are separated from members of our families for a completely different reason. We are lucky to have phones so that we can speak to and even see our family members. However, this week I would like you to try writing a letter to a family member or a friend. Why not tell them how you are feeling, what you have been doing or what you’re looking forward to when we get back to school? You could even post it to them during your daily exercise. We can’t wait to see who you’ve been writing to on the Padlet!
