Week 2

English Task:

Task 3

Today we would like you to find out and write about something that fascinates you! Perhaps you could find out everything there is to know about your favourite dinosaur, an animal or plant, your favourite food or a famous person. It’s completely up to you – if it interests you then it’s fine!

You could try researching your information from a book or encyclopedia, using websites such as https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/ or even asking someone you know.

When you are writing about your interest, try to add lots of detail, find out how to spell key words about your topic and don’t forget those capital letters and full stops!

Here are a few intriguing facts to give you some inspiration:

Rubber bands last longer if you keep them in the fridge.
A shark is the only known fish that can blink with both eyes.
Screeched is one of the longest one syllable words.
Hippopotamus milk is pink!

One of my (Miss Armstrong’s) favourite poets is Jack Prelutsky. He was the first U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate.

Which is your favourite? I like “The Average Hippopotamus” although “I Made A Noise This Morning” certainly gave me fond memories of being in the classroom with the Kingfishers! Jack Prelutsky set his readers a challenge that I would like you to attempt. Please have a go at completing this poem:

Every day when I go out,
I stuff my shoes with sauerkraut.

Can you make the last word on each line rhyme? Remember that each line of a poem should start with a capital letter and end with either a comma or a full stop.

Here is my attempt:

Every day when I go out,
I stuff my shoes with sauerkraut.
I wrap spaghetti round my knees,
And fill my ears with lumps of cheese.
Each armpit holds a plum or two,
And raisins – my mouth holds a few.
I wish this wasn’t my daily task, it
would help to find the picnic basket!

We were all very impressed with all of the 3D shapes you spotted around your homes! The padlet was full of amazing 3D shapes! Keep looking out for new ones this week!

Watch the two videos below. Your challenge is to find as many 3D shapes as you can around the house, write down their names and the number of faces, edges and vertices they have.

Use the 3D shape mat below to help with the names of the shape.

*Tip – cylinders and cones have curved surfaces as well as faces. Now you know this, think about how you would describe a sphere!
