Two girls from the Swifts class decided to continue our exploring of minibeasts today at break!

Today the Year 2 children were learning about line symmetry. We focused on vertical symmetry – we learned that symmetrical shapes look the same on each side! We folded shapes and used mirrors to explore symmetry.
Can you find any symmetrical shapes around your house?

Please find below the information we would have presented at the cancelled SATs information evening as well as the end of Key Stage expectations for Reading, Writing and Maths.
*Please bear in mind that this is what happens ‘normally’ and may be subject to change in the coming weeks and months depending on Government announcements and guidelines*
They will also be saved in the ‘About Us’ section of the blog.
Over the coming weeks we will share past papers with you as well.
If you have any questions or concerns about SATs please speak to or email your child’s class teacher.
Up at Forest School the warmer weather has really started to get things growing. This week we went about trying to find signs of Spring. We looked for spring flowers such as snowdrops, celandines and primroses. We checked the trees for buds and catkins. We looked in the pond and found lots of frogspawn. We also spent some time listening for bird song and watching to see if any birds were making nests.
Keep a look out on your journey to school, in your garden or if you are out for a walk for any other signs of Spring. Let us know what you spot by adding a comment to this post.
Over the next couple of weeks we are exploring 2D shapes! We have been naming them, counting the sides, and we will explore them further over the next few days!

What 2D shapes can you see in your house? We’d love to see photos of all the shapes you find! Add them to the Padlet below!
This week, the school has been celebrating Book Week with a focus on children’s authors. The Kingfishers have been learning about Roald Dahl and the Swifts have been learning about David Walliams.
Today we came together as a year group to discuss and compare our authors. Both classes managed to name more than 14 books by their author! How many can you name? We discussed our favourite books by the author and gave reasons.
We spotted that there are a lot of similarities between David Walliams and Roald Dahl. The children noticed that they both have “horrid people” in them and they both have some books that are illustrated by Quentin Blake. They have both written funny and engaging book for children.
TENNIS
Great effort from year two today. We are learning different skills from tennis and today had a focus on our hand – eye coordination.

This term we have been looking for signs of new life at Forest School. Last week, we spotted leaf buds and this week we saw lots and lots of frogspawn! As well as our scientific discoveries, the Kingfishers have been trying out some delicious recipes for “chocolate pie”… Do you fancy trying it?!

This week we are continuing our learning about spreadsheets. We learned how to add clipart to the cells, populate several cells at once and how to move and lock the content in the cells. We applied all of our new skills by making a spreadsheet zoo! Make sure those lions don’t escape!

This week, we are enjoying a whole week of learning based on books and authors. The Kingfishers are learning about Roald Dahl and the Swifts are learning about David Walliams. At the end of the week, the two classes will get together to compare the two authors. We will be presenting posters that we have created as a class. Here is the start of the Kingfisher poster – today we have learnt the names of lots of different books by Roald Dahl and read a short description of each story. We are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in class. Have you read any books by either of these authors at home?
