Hip-hip-array!

This week in Maths we are learning about multiplication using arrays. We started by looking at arrays in real life. Can you find arrays in real life? If you can – take a photo and add to the comments! Can you also write the multiplication sentence to describe it? We will give a success star to anyone that can find one!

*Update – on the fabulous advice of Miss Wilson we have added a Padlet to add your lovely arrays to!*

This delicious box of chocolates below shows a 6 x 5 array. 6 x 5 = 30.

Guess Who – part 2!

In Computing this week we are continuing with our learning about Questioning and using binary trees to sort information. We are using a 2Question database on Purple Mash to answer questions about the avatars we sorted last week and find out their names! Soon we will be ready to create our own!

Here are the classes in action – some great teamwork also happening today!

Creating art in the style of…

This term in our art lessons we have been looking at how artists represent flowers.

We have looked at paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe and Edith Holden. We have made our own pictures using thick paint, watercolours, pastels and photography.

On Friday we looked at pictures by three local artists; Sally Stafford, Yvonne Coomber and Lynn Golden.

Enjoy this slide show of the children in action and look out for more photos of our finished work next week.

Rugby

We spent time learning how to hold the ball, run with the ball, place the ball on the floor and pass the ball. Fantastic efforts from all.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

This afternoon, we started learning about how we can look after our own environment by reducing the amount of plastic we use and recycling lots of different materials.

We went on a litter pick around our school. The children were amazed how much rubbish we found! It was great fun and we made a real impact to our school environment.

We found out how different materials can be recycled into something else and what happens to them once our bins have been collected.

We watched David Attenborough’s plastic message, which told us the impact we can have by making small changes, like reusing bags or using a reusable water bottle. Have you and your family made any small changes to help our environment? Comment below and we’ll share them in class!

Guess who?

In Computing this week we have been starting to learn about how to sort information using a binary tree. We asked yes/no questions to sort pictures of children into smaller and smaller equal groups!

Over the coming weeks we will be working on computer programs that will do the same job, and sort different insects!

And the Ladybird said never a word…

mind-your-language

This week in Science we have been learning about a new habitat – a meadow. We learned that ladybirds live in meadows and they have adapted to survive in their habitat.

Can you answer any of these questions? You will earn a success star for correct responses!

  • What flowers could you find in a meadow?
  • How do ladybirds protect themselves?
  • What is a ladybird’s predator?
  • What do ladybirds eat?

Rent-A-Beast

Today we had a visit from Caroline and her ‘minibeasts’. If you were able to join us we hope you enjoyed it as much as the children did!

Caroline showed us stick insects, blue death feigning beetles, millipedes, a tarantula and giant African land snails.

Can you remember any of the interesting facts she shared with us about them? Add them as a comment to earn a success star when we look at this tomorrow.
