We are scientists!

This week we have been investigating if plants need water to grow, and how water is transported around plants. We looked carefully at slices of celery and found little ‘holes’ all along them! What could they be?

Ask your child what they found out!

Line symmetry

Today the Year 2 children were learning about line symmetry. We focused on vertical symmetry – we learned that symmetrical shapes look the same on each side! We folded shapes and used mirrors to explore symmetry.

Can you find any symmetrical shapes around your house?

Hip-hip-array!

This week in Maths we are learning about multiplication using arrays. We started by looking at arrays in real life. Can you find arrays in real life? If you can – take a photo and add to the comments! Can you also write the multiplication sentence to describe it? We will give a success star to anyone that can find one!

*Update – on the fabulous advice of Miss Wilson we have added a Padlet to add your lovely arrays to!*

This delicious box of chocolates below shows a 6 x 5 array. 6 x 5 = 30.

Guess Who – part 2!

In Computing this week we are continuing with our learning about Questioning and using binary trees to sort information. We are using a 2Question database on Purple Mash to answer questions about the avatars we sorted last week and find out their names! Soon we will be ready to create our own!

Here are the classes in action – some great teamwork also happening today!

And the Ladybird said never a word…

mind-your-language

This week in Science we have been learning about a new habitat – a meadow. We learned that ladybirds live in meadows and they have adapted to survive in their habitat.

Can you answer any of these questions? You will earn a success star for correct responses!

  • What flowers could you find in a meadow?
  • How do ladybirds protect themselves?
  • What is a ladybird’s predator?
  • What do ladybirds eat?

Rent-A-Beast

Today we had a visit from Caroline and her ‘minibeasts’. If you were able to join us we hope you enjoyed it as much as the children did!

Caroline showed us stick insects, blue death feigning beetles, millipedes, a tarantula and giant African land snails.

Can you remember any of the interesting facts she shared with us about them? Add them as a comment to earn a success star when we look at this tomorrow.
