Week 1

English Tasks:

Task 3 – Draw a character. It could be someone or something beautiful, like Snow White or a unicorn. It could be someone or something frightening, like a wolf or a dragon. It could be someone or something disgusting, like David Walliams’ Grubby Gertrude or Roald Dahl’s Mr Twit.

When you have created your character, write a description of how they look, speak and act. Try to use some of these conjunctions to join your sentences: and, but, so, or, if, when, that, because. Remember, you can only put one or two conjunctions into a sentence before it needs a full stop!

Here is an example:

Miss Armstrong was a hideous demon. She snarled and threw things at children if they dared to speak!

Maths Tasks:

Task 3 – 2D shape puzzles. For this task you will need 15 ‘sticks’. In the video you will see how I made mine out of a cereal packet but you could use paper, pencils, twigs…as long as they are all the same length.

You can pause the video after each puzzle to have a go at solving it. I’ll give you the solutions on Monday so enjoy trying these out on your family too. Don’t post your answers yet…it will spoil it for others! You can let us know how you got on next week.

Week 1

English Tasks:

Task 2 – Re-read The Boy Who Cried Wolf. The Boy Who Cried Wolf Reading Comprehension

Try re-telling the story to an adult, a sibling or even recording it onto an electronic device. When you are confident that you have understood the story well and can re-tell it, try writing it down in your own words. Your own version should have correct capital letters and full stops. Try to make the tall letters (b, d, f, h, k, l, t) taller than the small letters and make the low letters (g, j, p, q, t, y) hang below the line.

Maths Tasks:

Task 2 – This term we were learning how to interpret pictograms. Pictograms are a way of showing information using images, or pictures. Look at the pictograms carefully and answer the questions underneath them. Tip – look very carefully at the key! Download a copy of this (see below).

Your Music task this week

(feel free to adapt how you wish so that your child can access it- this is available for all pupils, so make it a family activity like an Edgy Time)

Listen to these two pieces of music; Zorba’s Dance by Mikis Theodorakis (1964) and In The Hall Of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg (1875). Feel free to move or dance to them but make sure you’re listening carefully too!

What do you think of each piece of music?

What can you hear?

Can you spot what is the same about both of them?

In both pieces of music, the tempo changes. Tempo is the musical word for speed. Both pieces of music start slow and get quicker and quicker!

Now it’s your turn to respond to one or both of these pieces of music. Here are a few ideas. You could do all of them, or just choose your favourite!

  • Create a dance or piece of art that expresses the tempo of one of these pieces of music.
  • Play an instrument in the style of one of these pieces of music. This could be as simple as playing along to one of the pieces by banging a spoon on a pan, or as complicated as using your own instrument to play a piece of music that you have already learnt but changing the tempo as you go along.
  • Compose your own piece of music that changes in tempo. You could use an instrument or an app such as GarageBand.

Don’t forget to record or photograph your creations, performances and compositions and add them to the Padlet. We can’t wait to see and hear them!
